When they operate properly, window blinds produce a practical means of controlling the quantity of light that enters a room. HunterDouglas Honeycomb blinds are solid — they’re not louvered — so HunterDouglas Honeycomb blinds have one pull cord that enables raising and lowering of the blinds and none for switching louver angles. Replacing the pull cord is a two-stage process that entails removing the blinds, disassembling them and then inserting the new cord.

Remove and Disassemble the Blinds

Pull on the cord to increase the blinds all the way up. Skip this step if the cord isn’t functioning properly.

Loosen the tab screws located on the bottom of each mounting bracket. The mounting brackets are the holsters that the blinds ends sit in.

Tilt the back of the headrail downward, then slide the headrail from this bracket. The headrail is the slice from which the blinds hang.

Pry the wire cover along with the cord lock from the headrail with a flat-head screwdriver. Both pieces are located on the top outside corner of the headrail.

Cut the pull wires and pull them out through the cord lock.

Pry open the ball. The ball is that the plastic piece that hangs at the bottom of the pull cord.

Pull out and discard the equalizer and the pull wires, then eliminate the wires in the blinds. The way you go about taking away the cords in the blinds will vary depending on which HunterDouglas Honeycomb model you have. If your blinds utilize a pocket-and-ferrule system, then pull on the cord downward in the pocket to release the ferrule, and then slide the cord out. If your blinds use a washer system, then remove the end cap in the bottom rail, remove the rails in the fabric, and then eliminate the wires.

Alter the Cord

Select your cord guides in the replacement kit. Two types of cord guides have been provided. Decide on those that most closely fit the width of your blinds.

Line up the thin metal filler strip in the top cell of the fabric stack so that it’s flush with the end of the fabric stack. Also be sure that the rout holes in the filler strip have been lined up with the holes in the fabric stack.

Press the cord guide tab through the hole in the top cell and filler strip of the highest headrail cell.

Expand the headrail cells to verify the filler strip and underside cell fall free from the cord guide.

Measure and cut your new cord. The length to which you cut on the replacement cord varies depending on the style of your own HunterDouglas blinds. For Stop-Ball A and B Honeycomb blinds, the essential cord length is equal to the height of the blinds plus the width of the blinds and also 24 inches. If you’ve got Block-and-Tackle style Honeycomb blinds, then your cord length should be twice that the shade height, plus the shad with also 24 inches.

Insert your new cord. Catch the threading tool through the blinds, then insert the new cord through the loop in the threading tool, and pull on the threading tool through the fabric stack.

Secure the lift cord. For blinds with washer systems, thread the end of this new pull cord through one of these washers provided in the replacement kit. Pull the cord taut and tie a triple knot. For blinds with pocket-and-ferrule systems, then insert the pocket into the hole and then press it snug against the base. Remove the ferrule and thread it onto the brand new pull cord. Loop the cord across the ferrule, thread it through the ferrule, and leave a few inches of cable casting from the ferrule. Tighten the loop on the ferrule and press on the ferrule into its pocket.

Reassemble the blinds and reinstall the headrail.
