How to Add Grease to the Head of Your Sears Trimmer

After the head in your Sears Craftsman weed trimmer appears to be slow in reaction to an increase in throttle, then it is time to give it a squirt of grease to ensure its smooth motion. In addition to freeing a sticky trimmer mind, adding grease to the unit protects the internal workings of this machine from damage that may be due to the constant friction when it is functioning. Greasing the mind of the trimmer can save you headaches in the future and ensure the continued operation of the equipment.

Remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug to avoid the trimmer from starting accidentally.

Loosen the bolt on the side of the Sears trimmer head with the proper wrench. Continue turning the bolt until it is completely free of this trimmer head. Use a lubricating spray to remove a bolt that’s stuck fast.

Set the nozzle of the grease gun in the hole where the bolt had been. Squeeze the trigger to fill the hole with silicone grease only until the a small amount of grease flows back out of the hole. Silicone grease is safe for use with plastic components and will not cause them to erode. Do not overfill the hole with grease, since the resulting pressure may dislodge bearings, damage seals and force grease into places beyond the trimmer head.

Pull the starter string on the trimmer to rotate the head several times and then spread the grease throughout the mind. Do not try to begin the machine. Simply perform this step with the goal of mind rotation. Insert as much as extra grease as the hole will hold.

Wipe the excess grease from the bolt hole. Insert the bolt into the hole and use the wrench to tighten it back into position. Wipe extra grease from the mind one last time.

Reconnect the spark plug wire to the spark plug. Initiate the string trimmer and squeeze the trigger or throttle to cause the head to spin in a high rate of speed and complete the dispersion of the grease.
