Replacing the Belt in a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II

The Ultimate Care II washer, model number GSW9800PW, was stopped by Whirlpool, but it’s still possible to find this appliance in outlets and certain shops. This top-loading washer features wool and heavy duty settings together with variable water levels. If the washer fills up with water but wo not agitate or spin, then it can have a broken belt. You’ll likely find the repair procedure simple, provided that you can handle the weight of the washer well enough to lean it on its entrance.

Unplug your Whirlpool washer. Turn off the water supply lines in the wall. Pull the drier from the wall. Place a rag and a bucket underneath the back of the washer to catch any potential drips from the hoses. Remove the hoses from the inlet valves.

Return to the front of the washer, and run a bit of tape over the front of the lid to fasten it. Hint the Ultimate Care II appliance forwards so it rests on a mat, pad, blanket or towel to protect the front panel from scratches.

Crouch over the back of the washer, where the belt cover will now be revealed at the base. It is a bit of transparent plastic shaped like a flattened oval, with projecting tabs holding it in position. Remove the 2 screws holding the belt cover in place and set it apart. Roll the belt forwards across the pulleys, in the same time pulling it toward you, to pull it off the pulleys.

Pinch the brand new drive belt onto the smaller motor pulley and then press it fully in place, and then onto the larger drive pulley. Rotate the pulleys to align the belt, advises RepairClinic.com.

Replace the drive belt cover and secure its screws. Lift the washer to an erect posture; remove the tape, and continue to undo your steps to prepared the washer for a test load. Run the washer with some clothes on it to confirm that the belt works correctly.
